Lighting the way to hope

Pine Tree Society and Spurwink are pleased to present the 6th annual Southern Maine Autism Conference! The conference is designed for parents and family members of children with autism spectrum disorders, as well as their educators and other service providers. Our attendees will leave with practical tools and strategies that can be implemented immediately in the home, school and community. Maybe more importantly, we work hard to create an environment of networking and support. You will meet others who understand ? and hopefully you will stay connected beyond the end of the day.

This year, our keynote address will feature a panel of Maine-based parents of children with autism spectrum disorders who have become experts out of necessity. The panelists will cover all age ranges and areas of the spectrum. They will share their stories, challenges and their top tools, strategies and resources. There will be plenty of time for audience questions and answers.

In addition to the keynote, we will offer two breakout sessions - each with three options covering topics including Autism 101, social skills, behavior and communication tools and strategies for teenagers and young adults.

A Make and Take Drop-In Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Geared specifically toward parents and families, the center will offer the opportunity to customize premade templates of commonly used tools. We will be on-hand to help create a customized tool that you can implement immediately in your home.

During the lunch break, attendees have the option to participate in topic table conversations. It?s a great way to connect with other attendees around a mutual interest or challenge and make new supportive connections. Throughout the day, attendees will be able to visit more than 40 exhibitors featuring resources in the community.
